The second Kashif and Shanghai/Roraima Bikers cycling meet which is set for Amelia’s Ward, Linden on Sunday, August 9, has received a big boost from Bill Express; a subsidiary of Grace Kennedy Guyana Limited, when the company yesterday handed over a substantial amount of money to the organizers.

President of the Roraima Cycle club Brian Allen said that they are really appreciative of the type of support that cycling gets whenever a meet is held in the Amelia’s Ward area and he expects this event to be much bigger, especially with Bill Express coming on board in a major way.

Also aboard sponsoring the event is Church’s Chicken, the Trinidad-based fast food business through its managing director Gregory De Gannes handed over a cheque for an undisclosed amount to Kashif Mohammed and Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major at their Camp Street branch. According to De Gannes, their contribution shows the commitment his company has towards sports and more so, their continued support to the Linden community.

Mohammed in his reply thanked Church’s  Chicken for the assistance and promised to continue working closely with the company.

Co-director of the organization Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major said that the cycling club had approached them to put together a day of athletics and cycling at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground in Linden, but due to  inclement weather in that region, they had to settle for the cycling event at the Amelia’s Ward circuit.

It is expected, according to President of the club Brian Allen, that some of the country’s top cyclists will be on show, noting that they were no strangers to the type of terrain in the Linden community.

Marketing manger of the company Natheeah King said that they are always keen to support sports whenever they can, but in this instance it was the involvement of the Kashif and Shanghai organization that prompted them to react even faster.

King noted that the organization, which has been in existence for approximately 20 years, has grown to become one of Guyana’s most reputable sports organizations.

“Because of their reputation where business is concerned and the way they are able to properly get things done, we at Bill Express are pleased to be associated with this event, especially since it is happening in Linden. I know we always give most of the times to Georgetown, but I want Linden to know that we have not forgotten them and this would be the start of plenty more to come,” King assured.

She also openly expressed her company’s willingness to work with any group in the Linden community to help in the development of sports.

Apart from the cash donation, Bill Express will also be presenting  trophies to the top finishers in the nine events which will be contested
