Guyana begin Caribbean Qualification with victory

Guyana began Group B of the Digicel Caribbean Championship 2008, which is the qualifier to the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup™, with a 3:0 victory over Dominica at the Georgetown’s National Stadium on Friday.
Nigel Codrington scored twice, while Glenorvan Edmonds added another for Guyana in the victory. Dominica will now play against Surinam on Saturday at the National Stadium.
Group B concludes on Sunday in Georgetown as Surinam face the hosts.
The winner of the group will be joined by three other group victors along with the Netherlands Antilles (Group A winner) and the four best second-place teams in the Second Round of the Digicel Caribbean Championship that will be three groups hosted by Guadeloupe, Cuba and Trinidad & Tobago from 11 October - 9 November. The top two teams from each second round group will join the defending Caribbean champion Haiti and the hosts Jamaica in the final round in December. The top four teams from the Digicel Caribbean Championship will qualify to the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup™.
