Guyana Women’s Football Committee Launched

| The USA-based Guyana Sports Development Foundation (GSDF) in conjunction with the Guyana Football Federation has launched the Guyana Women’s Football Committee (GWFC).
The GWFC will be a sub-committee under the GSDF and will be guided by Terms of Reference as agreed to between the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the Guyana Sports Development Foundation. The Terms of Reference covers a wide range of duties of which the GWFC will be responsible for in pursuit of the development of the Women’s program in Guyana, creation of scholarship opportunities for the players and identify a squad comprising local and overseas players to participate in the 2011 FIFA World Cup.
The seven (7) member committee is led by Mr. Colin Baker, President of the Guyana Sports Development Foundation. Mr. Baker is the chairman and Program Director of the committee. The other committee members are located in the USA, Canada and Guyana.
They are: - Anne Wong-You - Secretary; Donna Carvahal – Asst. Secretary; Mark Rodrigues – Treasurer; Vanessa Dickenson – Asst. Treasurer; Garth Nelson and Dion Inniss.
The GWFC has already launched fundraising activities including the sale of the “Lady Jags” Replica shirts and a Raffle. Funds raised will assist the GWFC in supporting some of the committee’s immediate initiatives which includes the raising of the level of the players in Guyana and to assist the overseas based players to attend a tournament in Guyana this December which will feature a Guyana Overseas team, a Guyana local team, and the National teams from Trinidad & Tobago and Suriname.
The committee is in the process of having a website created which will provide details on its progress and that of the “Lady Jags” team. The committee will meet on a monthly basis.
