ONE EQUIPMENT (OE) of France has made history with Guyana’s football as the first ever official Equipment Sponsor of the Golden Jaguars, Guyana’s National Senior Male Football Team.
The contract establishing the partnership between the Guyana Football Federation and ONE EQUIPMENT was signed in the first week of June. This paved the way for ONE to commence the preparation and production of OE branded equipment for supply to the GFF on behalf of the Jaguars. According to contract details, the deal will see the Golden Jaguars receiving kit and equipment worth approximately forty-eight thousand Euros ($16M GYD) over a three year period beginning 2008 and ending in 2010. Some of the kit and equipment was already handed over to the GFF on the morning of June 22 when Guyana played her home game with Suriname at the Guyana national Stadium. The kit received was one Team traveling bag, three pairs of goal keeper’s gloves, eight FIFA-approved SAMBA Brilliant balls, 27 team playing shirts, 27 team playing trunks and 30 pairs of socks. Unfortunately, the Team could not be outfitted in the playing gear as the kit did not arrive in time to be presented to the match officials for their inspection prior to the game being played. ONE EQUIPMENT has agreed to provide Home and away playing jerseys and short pants and socks; Full goal keeper kit (gloves, jerseys, and pants); Sportswear including hats for the players as well as the coaches; travel bags; training balls; Official balls; raincoats, bibs in four different colours; and football boots. After some design changes are taken care of, the remainder of the complete set of kit and equipment for 2008 are expected to be shipped to Guyana by September. Thereafter, the second tranche of kit and equipment is expected in February 2009 with the third set being available in April of 2010.
GFF President, Colin Klass says that this is indeed a historic time for Guyana’s football as never before has any football national football team in Guyana benefited from total equipment sponsorship. and indicates that the Senior Jaguars are fortunate to have landed this deal. Klass says that in the past there has been partial sponsorship for national football teams through ROSSI of Trinidad and Tobago. Klass notes ROSSI’s contributions have always helped and says that although the Senior male team has landed OE’s sponsorship, contributions from any other sources will always be welcome as there are other Age-group teams like the National Under 15, Under 20 and Under 23 that need outfitting for the Tournaments they are required to play annually.
ONE EQUIPMENT, though disappointed with Guyana’s loss to Suriname in the recent CONCACAF ZONE FIFA World Cup TM 2010 Qualifiers, says that they are happy to have begun this partnership and look forward to Guyana and the Golden Jaguars rising to higher heights over the next three years. OE is confident that with support, such as it is providing, the morale of the players and coaching Staff will be buoyed. OE’s management has also expressed the hope that many other corporate entities would rise to the occasion to help develop a national product which can and bring long term benefits to the development of youth across the entire country. “The Golden Jaguars is about Guyana,” they say, “and it is up to all Guyana to ensure their success. building takes one block at a time and we are happy to have begun with one of the first blocks”
With the Digicel Caribbean Cup (DCC) to be played in August, Guyanese will have more opportunities to throw their support behind the Jaguars. Guyana is grouped with Suriname and Aruba in the first round of the group matches for the DCC. The dying on the cross is the agony of the process but it is in the rising again that glory lies! the DCC will be a golden opportunity for the jag glory, it is Jaguars to redeem themselves, and with it the hope of the nation.
