The Technical Committee of the Guyana Football Federation has named a 29-man squad which will commence training on Monday afternoon as preparations for the Suriname Independence 4-nation tournament heightens.
US based playmaker Gamal Breedy and goalkeeper Roland Dey have been included in the squad along with Caledonia AIA based midfielder Brion Baker. The remaining players named are all local based.
The Twenty-two year old Breedy is already in Guyana with Dey and Baker expected to arrive on Saturday. Breedy, who is based in New Jersey said he was part of the State Olympic Development team while Dey, who is based in Tampa Florida, has tried out for the Haitian National team but did not make it since he could not speak French. Baker, who also lives in the USA but plays with T&T Pro League side Caledonia AIA, was part of the ‘Golden Jaguars’ outfit before and said he is looking forward to represent his country once again.
Central defender Howard Lowe, the most experienced member of the squad is expected to retain the captain’s armband. Lowe’s wealth of experience and sound knowledge of the game along with his ability to lead are admirable attributes.
The entire make up of the team reflects a mix of youth and some experience in keeping with the Guyana Football Federation’s mandate to rebuild for the future. Encampment is set to begin on Monday afternoon and while no ground has been identified as yet, the players will be housed at Palace De Leon Hotel, Kitty.
