Building off their success in the Turks and Caicos Tournament this past June, the Guyana Women’s program is about to take a giant leap forward with the hosting of a 4-team tournament in Guyana on December 18-20th 2009. The participating National teams will be a Guyana Overseas, Guyana Local, Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago.
As part of a planned strategy to develop Guyana Women’s Football to be highly competitive in the shortest possible time, Guyana will be represented by an overseas team and a local based team. The overseas based team comprises players playing at the semi-professional, College and University levels in North America. The local based team will comprise of players selected from the Women’s league currently underway in Guyana.
It is the intention that having local and overseas Guyana teams, as many players as possible will be exposed to International competition and at the same time allow the coaching staff to select the best players from both teams to make the Guyana National team for the 2011 Women’s World Cup qualifying expected to kick off early in 2010.

Since the team’s participation in the Turks & Caicos tournament last June, the GFF's Overseas Player Pool increased tremendously, and continues to grow monthly as word keeps spreading about the Program's launching and future plans.
Coach Mark's decision to carry a large pool of players to the Pre-World Cup Qualifying Tournament, allows the Coaching Staff to assess as many new players as possible for selection to World Cup Qualifying which is slated to start early 2010, and also aids in player recovery having to play 3 games over a 3 day period.
President of the GFF - Colin Klass continues to be very instrumental and supportive administratively and financially, working with his staff, which includes Vanessa Dickenson and the business community in Guyana, Technical Director Mark Rodrigues and Program Director - Colin Baker, to ensure the future development and growth of the Women's Program for Guyana. All matches are expected to be played at the National Stadium and GCC Bourda with accommodation for the players already arranged.
The tournament will have a total of 6 games over 3 days.
