THE national Under-23 football team, who will leave the country tomorrow for Suriname where they will compete in the Caribbean Football Union’s (CFU) Olympic Group Qualification Competition, was announced yesterday.
The 18 players selected include four who are based in the T&T Pro League and one who is at College in the USA.
Midfielder Brion Baker who played with the Palm Beach Pumas/Barry University in Florida, Tobago United’s Andrew Durant (goalkeeper), midfielder Tichard Joseph, as well as forwards Dwight Peters of Caledonia AIA, Vurlon Mills of United Petrotrin and Konata Mannings of Italia Shooters of Canada are the players whose overseas exposure could prove pivotal for Guyana in the four-team group play which starts on Friday in Paramaribo.
The rest of the team reads: Ronson Williams, Kelvin Smith, Quacy Johnson, Calvin Shepherd, Dwayne Jacobs, Shavane Seaforth, Philbert Moffatt, Devon Dummett, Kester Jacobs, Edison Gomes, Quincy Madramootoo and Javene Crawford.
It was also announced that the team will have two captains, from whom the leader for each game will be appointed. The appointed co-captains are Smith and Mannings.
